FORTHCOMING VISIT JULY 2012

East Yorkshire will be the venue for the annual gathering of The Dalton Genealogical Society over the weekend of 27th - 30th July 2012. The theme of the weekend will be the origins and history of Yorkshire Dalton families and particularly those with Hull connections.

Visits to Hull and Beverley are planned, including the Hull History Centre and Beverley Minster. On the afternoon of the 29th July, the society will be visiting Garton on the Wolds to view the village and St Michael's Church.

RIDE YORKSHIRE ~ HEART OF THE WOLDS FUNRIDE

Ride YorkshireSunday 23rd October 2011

Ride Yorkshire was set up in 2010 by a group of enthusiasts with the aim to get more people riding in Yorkshire whether experienced or novice riders.

The Funride starts from Huggate in the heart of the rolling Yorkshire Wolds. There are three routes to choose from, 6 1/2 miles, 10 1/2 miles and 16 miles, all with plenty of straight grassy tracks and access to private land for several parts of the route. The event is part of the new Wolds activity festival taking place over this weekend.

The Dodger"THE DODGER" DRIFFIELD TO MALTON BUS SERVICE 133

The "Dodger" is the affectionate name for the former Driffield to Malton rail service. The bus stops at many villages between Driffield and Malton, including Garton on the Wolds (by the pond).

Every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from Easter until September.

This is a registered bus service that accepts the English National Concessionary Bus Pass and National Travel Tokens.

LETTER FROM AMERICA ...............February 2011

We have had an e-mail from LeeAnn Garton who lives in Idaho, USA. LeeAnn has been researching her family name and discovered the village website. Apparently the word "gar" derives from a fishing spear.

COMMUNITY BUS EVENT ............. September 2010

Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council

The Rural Partnership plus Project  community bus will be in Garton on the Wolds on the 1st September 2010 between 12.00 - 12.45, parked in the village centre.

The aim is to help rural voluntary and community groups to access information on a range of topics including ~

  • Funding Advice
  • Training
  • Help with Accounts and Financial management
  • Access to other support services
  • A voice to raise the issues that impact on your groups delivery of vital services to your community
